- Integrate the R&D team to lead and execute the development of a new process for the filtration and recycling of cell culture medium, employable towards a range of products in the bioeconomy.
- Lead the set-up of specialised equipment, consumables, and facilities for downstream medium collection, processing, and analysis.
- Test the effectiveness of the new processes using a wide range of analytical tests covering proteomic, lipidomic, metabolomic, microbiologic, and biofunctional analysis.
- Write new methods and guidelines related to the newly developed processes.
- Write reports describing the various experiments and present main conclusions to the R&D team. Interpret statistical data to identify trends and generate technical reports.
- Ensure the effective sourcing and supply of key materials to be used within R&D projects.
- Liaise with other team members for effective and timely delivery of project objectives.
- Attend and participate in the Company’s project and technical meetings. Provide technical updates to the R&D team when required.
Key skills and qualifications:
- PhD in Biochemistry, Chemical or Biochemical Engineering, or related field of study.
- Extensive experience in downstream processing techniques at 1-100 litre scale such as liquid filtration and chromatography, and media reconstitution and recycling following specifications based on a fundamental understanding of medium composition and property relationships.
- Extensive experience in media production, filtration, and analysis, and in media requirements for animal/mammalian cell culture.
- Extensive experience in quantitative/qualitative analytical equipment methods.
- Experience of process development, preferably associated with cell culture media purification, filtration, and recycling.
- Ability to troubleshoot issues that may arise in process development.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in documenting laboratory procedures and results.
- Fluency in English, both spoken and written.
Other requirements:
- Proven experience in academia (3+ years postdoctoral, preferably within industry projects) or industry (2+ years), with an R&D position.
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
- Have excellent communication, people and presentation skills.
